Part V: Taking Care of Your Temple

Written by: Renne Johnson

Your Body is the Temple of God (I Corinthians 6:13-20), and members of Christ. He that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit.

Let us begin with the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

In the beginning, God "let there by light" and created Heaven and Earth, day and night, the waters, the animals, ect. (Genesis 1:1 – 2:1)

When it came time to create Mankind/ Man, God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:”

So we see that there is ONE God, with three parts to him.

  • Father (God)
  • Son (Christ Jesus)
  • (Holy) Spirit

Man was created in three parts also, Spirit, Soul, and Body, which make up ONE Man or Woman.

The spirit of Man is the real you; it is the part of you that God gives life to.  Your spirit will live on in eternity forever (Matthew 10:28). Your soul is the part of you that has feelings, emotions, likes, dislikes, gifts, talents, desires. It’s basically your personality.

Your body, like the house for your soul/spirit, is the only part of you that will die.

We are told to take care of our body, the temple, which I believe includes the three parts of our body.

1.      We need to take care of our spirit by feeding on the Word of God on a regular basis. When tempted, Jesus said to the devil, “It is written: man should not live by bread alone, but by every word of God (Luke 4:4 )" ( & Galatians 5:16-26)

2.      We need a healthy soul, free of bitterness, wrath, anger, unforgivness, selfishness, strife, hate, depression, fear, and shame just to name a few.  A good outlook, influence, and attitude on life combined with love, gratitude, and joyful patience can all be accomplished when one prays and connects with God (Psalm 16:11 & 21:6).

3.      We need to take care of our body by watching what and how much we eat. We must get plenty of rest, exercise, and needed nutrition from vitamins/minerals. Add to that the consumption of plenty of water.

4.      We should also abstain from sexual sin and perversion, as this sin affects the body (temple). Let us avoid substances that harm the body (I Corinthians 6:19, Galatians 5: 7-8, Ephesians 5:11-13)

We should work towards taking good care of our whole image (spirit, soul, & body) on behalf of a goal towards complete balance, healthy living, strength to do God’s will, and peace of mind.
