Revelation's Revolution

Written by: Terron Nolan

A few years back, there was a book which flooded the stores with many controversial ideas about the life of Christ.  The Christian community was in an uproar and demanded a strict boycott of this book.  Despite their efforts the book went on to sell thousands of copies, became a multi million-dollar movie and is an appreciated addition to my DVD library.

The reason I bring this up is not to focus on the themes and beliefs that were found inside of this fictional story, but rather to point out the failure of the Christian Community.  Instead of being a shining light on a hill (Matthew 5:14), we shrunk back and turned our light away from those who really needed it.

It is no surprise that we as a world are facing fearful and traumatic times.  Many would argue that we are living in the last days, that the prophecies found in the book of revelation are becoming more and more evident.  We must not forget God’s heads-up: “Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief!  Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed (Revelation 16:15).”  I have no clue when Christ will return; but I know He WILL! And in my opinion this is the truth we should focus on.  We can spend our whole lives watching and waiting for the stars to align and for prophecies to come to pass, and completely miss the essence of Christ commission “…go and make disciples… (Matthew 28:18-20).”

The world is dying and people are hurting all around us.  It is time for us (followers of Christ) to get up and start becoming beacons of hope, which radiate Christ salvation. Instead of having the “I got mine… you-betta-get-yours” mentality, let’s be the arms and feet of Christ, loving those who are hurting around us.  Look, Jesus is coming very soon and in Revelation 16:15 it says “blessed are all who are watching for me.”  We do need to watch and be ready for Christ’s return but my question is why do it alone?  Christian Community, there are many who are in need of hope, lets not boycott their pain and suffering.  Let’s follow Jesus into the heart of it and watch together.
